I was pleased to see that the Ontario Court of Appeal has ruled that the Globe and Mail does not have the right to publish freelance stories in its online database. The outcome is the latest development in a case against the Globe launched by freelancer Heather Robinson.
How the paper ever imagined it had the right to electronically reuse, at no cost (but considerable profit) the work of non-staffers, is beyond me. The Globe may still appeal the ruling. If they do, it will just continue to demonstrate how out-of-touch they are.
